My favorite Peloton workouts that don't require a bike (except one)

Confession: I ran two marathons with almost no cross-training.

After finishing the Goofy Challenge in January, I decided I needed to be a better about cross-training (it may have had something to do with the fact that I injured my plantar fascia...something that my PT attributed to weakness in my glutes that could have been prevented with cross-training. Whoops).

Since I knew I'd be taking a little time off from running (which ended up being 6 months), I bought comparatively inexpensive spin bike on Amazon (this one) and signed up for the Peloton digital app ($12.99/month).

Don't get me wrong, the spinning is great but I was surprised by how much I loved the other classes.

I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Peloton workouts (only one of which requires a bike!). Take any class at your own risk--I'm not a professional and you should probably work with one if you want to ensure a well-balanced routine.

When I need a leg day... Lunges, squats, and glute bridges are literally what the doctor order for my plantar fascia rehab. So this routine has the right mix. Robin uses weights, but it could easily be adjusted without.

I found this workout on a Reddit thread of best Peloton arm workouts. Despite being an older video, there are always lots of others participating on demand with me. Plus, one song I've actually heard of is a nice touch for someone like me who is chronically out of touch. I often sneak this one in during conference calls 🤫, so it's good muted too.

Covers all the basics that I'd normally do while stretching, but putting on this class keeps me honest. You spend a minute stretching the Achilles which is a big plus (though I'll usually stretch out my stairs one more time as I head out the door...since my calf muscles are usually tight tight tight). I like the music too...but something about it always gets me singing "If U Seek Amy" as I'm heading out the door.

This is filed under yoga. Doesn't feel like yoga to me. But it's a well-rounded leg routine that makes my legs feel better.

This actually isn't my *favorite* class but it's short and Disney-themed and I can pretty easily talk myself into actually doing it. Isn't that what they say the best workout is? The one that you actually do?

Slightly cringey 2000s music? Sign me up! I like to use this outdoor running workout to work on my speed (or just run a little faster than I would on my own). Sure, the instructor says this workout can be use as a recovery run, but between the beats and her instruction I always find myself running about a minute per mile faster than my normal sloth's pace.

What are you favorite ways to cross-train? Inspire me in the comments below!
